Privacy policy

Last updated:

QuakeEs has no user accounts and does not ask for identifying personal data: we do not ask for your name, email or phone number. Advertising is the only part of the app that processes data from your device, and it is explained below.

With your permission, we store your location (coordinates) in the secure storage of your own device. It is used to calculate the distance to earthquakes and to show you the closest ones.

If you turn alerts on, we send your location, your device identifier and your alert criteria (distance, province and minimum magnitude) to our server. The server is what decides whether a new earthquake affects you, so it needs to know them. They are not sent to anyone else and are not used for any other purpose.

To deliver the alerts, the server uses Expo's notification service, which in turn hands them to Apple or Google. The content of the alert travels through those services.

If you turn alerts off, your location and criteria are deleted from our server.

Your preferences (language, map type, filters and alert settings) are also stored on the device.

QuakeEs is funded by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdMob, a Google LLC service, which may process your device's advertising identifier, your IP address and data about how you interact with the ad. Google carries out that processing as an independent controller, not us: see policies.google.com/technologies/ads. We do not receive or store that data; we only see aggregated revenue.

Before showing you personalised ads we ask for your consent and, on iOS, for the system's tracking permission. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time in Settings > Legal & information > Ad privacy options. If you withdraw it, you will still see ads, but not personalised ones: they are chosen from context rather than from a profile about you.

The app queries public seismic data sources. Those requests do not include any information that identifies you.

You can delete your location and preferences at any time by turning alerts off, uninstalling the app or revoking the permissions in your system settings.
